V2D visits Hastings, Brighton and London

Trip to England, report by pupils Luuk, Roy and Marijn.

It all started when we had to be up early in the morning because we had to be at school at 5.30. You had to be sure you had everything with you especially your ID or Passport otherwise you won't make it through the customs in Calais.

We left school at about a quarter to 6. We drove all the way through Holland, Belgium and France until we reached Calais. The people who were very tired could sleep in the bus during the journey *cough* (miss Bruens) *cough*. All the other people could stay awake ;)

We finally reached Calais after I don't know how many hours. We went on a ferry and I know some of you think a ferry is just a small boat where 2 cars and a bus fit in. Below here I have a picture of a ferry that might have been one like we were on.

As you can see: IT IS HUGE! ↘

We travelled by boat for let's say two hours. When we arrived in Dover, we went straight away with the bus to Dover-castle and this is a bit how it looks from above ↓ there were underground tunnels and a fortress and we had to walk really far throughout the terrain. It was the whole time hill up hill down. It was all very nice and we had beautiful views over the sea and the white rocks :)

In the evening we met our host families who were in most cases very nice… After a dinner with(out) our host family we watched some TV and after that we went upstairs to go to bed. Next morning we had to be up at 7.00. We got our double packed lunch which wasn’t eatable and left for the pickup point.

We drove to Beachy Head. We walked there but it was very foggy and wet so we didn’t see everything like in the picture. Also our shoes and pants became dirty and some people fell which was quite funny.

Then we went to Brighton to visit the Royal Pavilion which was absolutely beautiful. The inside in its Chinese style and the outside that looked like India were stunning. Especially the dining room was nice… ↓

After this we had some free time to eat something or to go shopping. We went to the 99 pence shop (xD) and to the KFC. Furthermore we walked next to the sea and then it was already time to go again.

We drove for a quarter I believe before we reached the building where we were going to bowl. There were 5 or 6 people per group. It was a lot of fun also to see our teacher try… After quite a lot of strikes we went back to our host families to sleep there for the last time. We gave our host families a present to thank them for their hospitality.

Then we went upstairs and laughed a lot about the most stupid jokes in the world. At 6.30 we had to get up and got another DELICIOUS double packed lunch.

On the third day, we went to the capital; London.

At first we went to the natural history museum. The main hall had a roof which was over 10 meters high. There were several halls and rooms with a different subject.

After that we went by underground to St. James’s park near Buckingham palace. There were guards wearing those traditional uniforms which was quite a funny thing to see.

Then we visited Westminster which is the place where Big Ben (which is quite short compared to the tower of the church in Weert ) and Westminster Abbey and the houses of parliament are located.

After that we went to a gallery because it rained so much.

When it stopped raining we went by such a typical bus to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.

After we had visited all the places we wanted to see, we went to Dominion theatre to see the spectacular musical ‘We will rock you’.

After a very nice but exhausting day and journey we went home by bus and ferry.
