Visit primary school ‘’De Schatkist’’

On the 26th of September, Fred and I visited the primary school ‘’De Schatkist’’ to promote ‘’De dag van de Talen.’’ This is a day which was set up by the European platform, and is used to promote TTO schools and learning foreign languages.

So Fred and I arrived at our old primary school. We came in and the most important thing was to speak English in this lesson. We wanted to show the pupils how they can improve their English just like we did. It worked out really well. We mentioned that the level of English at this primary school was already quite high, so that was a good thing. We didn’t have to switch to Dutch all the time.

Our purpose was to give them a short lesson in English. Of course not about boring grammar things, but we played a little game with them, which is called ‘’what am I?’’ Before doing this game we asked them to come up with words in English about objects which you could find in the classroom. After that we made little cards with these words on it. They could paste those on their head. This was a really good game to start up with, because they had to make questions to figure out what they were. For example: Am I a person? , am I something to write with? Etc.

The pupils all liked it and even the teacher joined the game.

I think this was a really successful promotion for TTO. Afterwards there were a number of children who were thinking about choosing TTO.
