Inge Haselager (V2C) and Silvijn Korten (V3D) win JSC 2013

The theme for both years was "A World of Difference', with a different approach for each year.

For 2nd year pupils:

If you could be someone else, who would you choose to be and why? What has this person done to make a difference?

For 3rd year pupils:

If you could change or improve things in your daily life, what would you choose? And why would that make a difference?

Each speech was judged on the following elements:

- content

- structure

- clarity

- use of English

- contact with the audience

- originality

- handling of questions

- time management

Friday 18 january 12 TTO-pupils delivered their speech for an audience consisting of mostly TTO-pupils, a jury, teachers and a parent.

Former English teacher Klaus Tavenier and member of this year's jury was impressed by the high level of English of the contestants.

The jury was formed by TTO-teachers Sinéad Hennesy, Gerty Reijnders, and former teacher of the Philips Klaus Tavenier.

Organisation and preparation of this year's school round were taken care of by TTO-teacher Juliette van Kempen and Peter van der heijden.

Juliette van Kempen presented the two-hour contest.

Since all 12 the contestants had done a really good job, it was very difficult for the jury to point out the winning speeches. After some discussion the jury announced the winners:

Inge Haselager (V2C) and Silvijn Korten (V3D).

Inge and Silvijn will represent the Philips van Horne in the regional round at the Jan van Brabant College in Helmond. Silvijn also took part in het regional round last year as 2nd-year winner. Hopefully this year he'll make it to the national round.
